Barn + Rustic Weddings are enormously popular here in the beautiful state of Wisconsin. Many of the reasons are obvious- we love bringing fresh purpose and history together in vintage, shabby-chic details and decor (the obsession continues, thanks to Joanna Gaines); the spectrum of soft, romantic pastels to vibrant-colored wildflowers available; the way we can transform barn + rustic wedding venues into whatever atmosphere we want, whether it be elegant, country-chic, or a backyard BBQ style; the endless opportunities for personal expression through wedding attire + accessories, music, food, drinks, decor, activities, etc.; the incorporation of sweet-faced animals living on the farm, rustic details like weathered, wooden fences, crumbling stone barn foundation, or retired farm trucks and tractors; not to mention the slowed-down, laid-back, fully-present feeling that many couples want their guests to experience on their big day. But I think some of the reasons many of us are drawn to the countryside and nature are more difficult to put into words. We long for closeness and connection to nature, we welcome simplicity and slowness, and we crave the kind of life that can only be found in creation itself.
